Self-Nomination: Randall to continue role as Vice President

ROLE PROPOSAL

Vice President

Diamante Bridge Collective - Board of Directors

Proposed by: Randall Saborío
Date: 2026-02-06
Term: 4 years
Elected by: General Assembly

DRIVER

The Diamante Bridge Collective Association is growing in membership, governance complexity, and bioregional reach. The Board requires a Vice President who can stand in for the President when needed, while also actively holding the connective tissue of the organization, bridging cultures and communities, supporting the health of governance practices, stewarding digital infrastructure, and weaving the relationships between projects, circles, and incoming leaders. Without this role functioning well, coordination across the organization’s distributed work becomes fragile and dependent on any single person.

PURPOSE

The Vice President ensures organizational continuity, weaves coherence across the Association’s projects and governance bodies, and bridges DBC’s diverse cultural and bioregional relationships so that the collective can function with resilience, clarity, and connection.

DOMAIN

The Vice President holds authority over:

  • Executive continuity: stepping into the President’s full authority and responsibilities during temporary or definitive absences, including signing legal and financial documents as authorized by the Constitution (Article 18)
  • Governance support: supporting the Board, incoming Board members, and Circle leaders in understanding and practicing sociocratic governance as defined in the Bylaws
  • Cross-circle coordination: supporting coherence and communication across Working Groups and Circles as a web weaver of the organization’s distributed work
  • Bioregional and cultural bridging: representing and nurturing DBC’s relationships with aligned partners, communities, and networks in the bioregion and beyond

RESPONSIBILITIES

Constitutional Duties (Article 18, DBC Constitution)

  • Replace the President in all temporary absences; assume the Presidency in cases of definitive absence or permanent incapacity until the next Ordinary Assembly elects a new President
  • Co-sign checks and financial instruments jointly with the President, Treasurer, or Secretary as required
  • Participate fully in Board sessions and the adoption of Board resolutions
  • Replace other Board members in sequence as established by the Constitution

Governance Stewardship

  • Support incoming Board members and Circle leaders in onboarding to sociocratic governance practices, the Bylaws, and the Constitution
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate Board sessions and governance reviews as needed
  • Hold and evolve DBC’s governance documentation, ensuring it is accessible, current, and well-understood across the organization
  • Participate in governance development and Bylaws evolution processes

Web Weaving Projects and Circles

  • Maintain active awareness of the work happening across Circles and Working Groups
  • Identify and surface cross-circle dependencies, opportunities for collaboration, and gaps in coordination
  • Support Circle leaders in connecting to each other and to the Board
  • Facilitate information flow between operational circles and the Board

Bioregional and Cultural Bridging

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with aligned organizations, communities, and partners in the Diamante Valley, Southern Zone, and broader bioregional network
  • Represent DBC at bioregional gatherings, network meetings, and collaborative initiatives as delegated by the Board
  • Bridge cultural and linguistic contexts within the DBC community, supporting equitable participation across Tico and international members
  • Support the integration of local Bridgers and regional allies into DBC’s work and network

COMPETENCIES

  • Deep alignment with DBC’s vision, values, and governance model
  • Experience with sociocratic or distributed governance practices
  • Ability to hold relationships across cultural, linguistic, and geographic contexts
  • Practical competence with digital platforms and communication tools
  • Capacity to hold both executive responsibility and connective, relational work simultaneously
  • Active membership at Stage 5+ (Web Weaver) of the Eight Stages of Stewardship, with sustained contribution across multiple domains

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Vice President is accountable to:

  • The General Assembly — as an elected Board member under Ley de Asociaciones No. 218 and the DBC Constitution
  • The Board of Directors — for the exercise of all delegated responsibilities within this role
  • The Membership — for transparent, values-aligned service in alignment with the Bylaws and Membership Covenant

The Vice President participates in the Board’s annual review process and in the annual membership opt-in and commitment review as an Active Member.

TERM AND TRANSITION

This role is held for 4 years, co-terminus with the Board election cycle. Upon conclusion of the term or departure from the role, the Vice President commits to:

  • Participating in a structured transition process with their successor
  • Transferring documentation, access credentials, and institutional knowledge within 15 natural days per the Constitution
  • Supporting the successor’s onboarding into governance and digital stewardship responsibilities
